Partially transformed into a unicorn on the summer solstice shortly before her 25th birthday in an attempt at resurrecting a faerie queen, Matilda has been trying to deal both with the new reality of her transformation and the one that magic exists in the months that have passed since then. Though the fact that magic, faeries, trolls, vampires and werewolves (and whatever else) exists has been easier to both accept and deal with compared to the body she now has, as well as the magic that goes along with it.
Introverted and rather shy, Matilda has developed a sense of impostor syndrome to her current state of being; she was average before, in every sense of the word, and now, despite that her hands certainly don't look as graceful any longer, the rest of her is anything but average. It's also hard to see herself in the face she sees in the mirror, despite that it's the same one, just prettier. And since none of this has removed her other issues with dealing with changes or knowing what to say in a given situation, it's not been any easier to deal with.
